American couple who helped Korean tourists

On the 20th, the Korean Food Promotion Institute (KFPI, Chairwoman Yim Kyung-sook) presented a “Korean food gift package” to Alexander and Andrea Campagna, who are Korean food lovers based in New York, USA, as a token of appreciation for their “love of Korean food.” The Campagnas invited 10 Korean tourists, who were stranded on the road due to a sudden snowstorm and heavy snowfall, to their home, offered them a place to rest, and made and shared with them Korean dishes, such as jeyukbokkeum (stir-fried pork) and dakbokkeumtang (spicy braised chicken).

They have always liked Korean food, and used Korean ingredients and kitchen utensils. Mr. Campagna has been enjoying Korean food at home since discovering it through a Korean friend during his college days. Thus, KFPI presented a Korean food gift package, which includes six homemade Korean meal kits, three Korean recipe books in English, two aprons, and a set of brass cutleries, as a token of appreciation for the Campagnas’ love of Korean food.

As the Campagnas expressed their desire to visit Korea and experience Korean culture and food, KFPI also sent an invitation for them to visit E:EUM (18 Bukchon-ro, Jongno-gu, Seoul). It is a Korean food culture space operated by KFPI, and KFPI invited the Campagnas to cook Korean dishes together through a special Korean cooking class when they visit.

E:EUM, which highlights the Korean food culture, consists of a basement and two floors. On the basement are a Korean food library with 2,400 food-related books and the E:EUM Hall, where events such as book concerts and academic seminars are held. On the first floor is a Korean food gallery, an exhibition and PR hall for Korean food and special exhibitions. On the second floor is a Korean food learning center, where visitors can experience and learn Korean dishes, as well as the E:EUM Studio that hosts online cooking classes.

Chairwoman Yim Kyung-sook of KFPI, said, “I am very grateful to the Campagnas for providing a warm home to Korean tourists who were stranded due to heavy snowfall, and for sharing Korean food with them. I hope that they visit Korea, and attend a proper Korean cooking class at Space E:EUM, and experience Korean food and food culture through our Korean food exhibition room and library.”
