The word bapsim (literally, “strength of rice”) refers to the importance of having an adequate meal in order to perform everyday tasks. The taking of meals is a deeply-rooted priority in Korea, to the point that people greet one another by asking whether the person has eaten. It should thus come as no surprise that a sizable portion of “K-content” (entertainment content produced in Korea) is devoted to meokbang/cookbang and miscellaneous TV programs on food. This month, we found examples of Korean foods appearing in webtoons, a genre of Hallyu content that is quickly gaining ground, that are pleasing in both appearance and taste.
