Since ancient times, sirutteok has been shared with neighbors every season. It is a rice cake that is always present at various family gatherings, and red bean paste is used for sirutteok being offered at rites or eaten on moving day. Add salt to the soaked non-glutinous or glutinous rice and grind it finely. Boil the red beans thoroughly, add salt while they are still hot, and pound them. Then, sieve them coarsely to make red bean paste. Afterward, steam the paste by adding the filling between rice flour layers or by adding bean, red bean, dried slices of pumpkin, radish slices, dried persimmon, etc.

It is a porridge boiled by adding rice to the filtered red bean water. It is sometimes eaten with bite-sized saealsim(small glutinous rice balls). In Dongji patjuk, put as many saealsim as the eater’s age. Patjuk is usually seasoned with salt, but when eaten as a delicacy, sugar is added to eat it as danpatjuk(sweet red bean porridge).
