  Naengi - Shepherd’s purse
  Ssuk - Mugwort

The history of their use is so long as naengi(shepherd's purse) appeared in Chinese 'the Book of Odes' and in the national foundation myth did ssuk(mugwort). Even if it is planted in the ground in the cold winter, naengi grows well and is a treasure trove of vitamins in the winter. It has been used as a food ingredient and medicine since ancient times. Ssuk is not only a food ingredient but also used as a medicine and moxibustion in oriental medicine, and in the private sector, it was used to smoke out mosquitoes by burning it in summer.

Although it is a food ingredient commonly found in our mountains and fields, its taste and efficacy are never light, so it has been described in detail in the 'Donguibogam', which is a collection of Chinese and Korean medical books as much as its history is long.

Naengi can be found in the Chinese character 薺菜, implying 'vigorous and rich grass', whereas ssuk can be found '艾葉’ in the Chinese character which includes 乂, implying ‘Can cut the disease’.
