Gochang’s Bokbunja and Subak Festival
Located in the southwestern part of Jeollabuk-do, Gochang, where boasts its mild weather of an average annual lower temperature at 8℃, is rich in agricultural and marine products. Among them, the representative summer products of Gochang are bokbunja(korean black raspberry) and subak(watermelon). Gochang's clay of rich minerals and sea breeze of the West Sea is enhancing the taste of bokbunja and subak. Gochang subak is boastful of fragrant sweetness and texture, and bokbunja is famous for having a unique bittersweet taste and aroma that cannot be felt elsewhere.
This year's festival was canceled but the <Gochang Bokbunja and Subak Festival> held in mid-June every year has been full of diversified programs. At the festival in 2019, a program was held in which both men and women of all ages can enjoy and participate together, such as buying raw fruits of bokbunja and subak at cheaper prices than the market prices, as well as eating subak fast contests, subak carving contests, and footbath with bokbunja etc. In addition, it is recommended to visit the Mt.Sunun Provincial Park, where the festival is held, as the Sunun Temple, a thousand-year-old temple, is located in a dense forest.
