<Sikgaek>, a work serialized from 2002 to 2010 by author Huh Youngman, is the most representative cartoon based on Korean food. <Sikgaek>, comprising a total of 27 volumes, was made into a drama series and a movie due to the original work’s sensational popularity. <Sikgaek>, which is said to have taken three years to produce, is also a cartoon based on realistic and accurate information. With “Sungchan,” who delivers seasonal ingredients and “Kim Jinsoo,” a magazine reporter, as the main characters, it deals with various Korean dishes that they see while traveling around the country. Though the main protagonists and many relevant people appear, the main character of this work is “Korean food.” This is because, at the center of each episode, the ingredients and food from all over the country are featured. In the process of telling the story, the ingredients, recipes, and historical background of the subject food are introduced in detail, so there are often people who say that they learned more about Korean food that they didn’t know well before through this body of work.
