We keep in mind each one’s wishes as we welcome the first full moon of the New Year. At this time, being healthy is one of the wishes that is always included in one’s list. Thus, at New Year’s, our people would usually pray for a good harvest and good fortune, hold different rites to protect themselves against diseases and heat, and make sure to eat food for good health.
Food for the New Year contains various nutrients that are beneficial to health, but it held a more shamanistic meaning in the past. When medical technology was not yet developed, it must have been the greatest blessing to be spared from both serious and mild diseases.
This issue will look into the dishes for good health that originated from our people’s desires and their earnest wishes for their loved ones to stay healthy.
The February issue of <A Good Day to Read about Korean Food> will introduce food for good health, which our people would usually eat while wishing to stay healthy, and look forward to the future of Korea where everyone will lead a healthier everyday life.
