On the morning of the new day after the past year, our people sincerely made tteok(rice cake), boiled it in a clear broth, offered it to the ancestors, said their first greetings to the family elders, and wished each other’s fortune.
Then, they all sat together around a table, and had their first meals by sharing tteokguk(sliced rice cake soup) that they also offered to the ancestors.
Since the ancient times, the white color symbolized holiness, honesty, and new beginnings and resolutions. This issue will look at the value of white rice by understanding the hearts of our people who aimed to make new resolutions by eating white rice cake soup.
The January 2022 issue of <A Good Day to Read about Korean Food> will deliver new hope through the stories of various foods that were prepared with white rice.
